About

What’s a missional youth church?

Missional youth church happens when local leaders and volunteer teams from local churches get alongside young people in schools and in the places where they live and hang out. Relating to young people with the love of Jesus, listening to the Spirit and to the young people themselves, they build community and share Jesus with the young people, so that discipleship and worship can take place.

MYCs exist in deprived estates, rural towns and urban areas. There are over 50 MYCs across the UK. Many are supported through local partnership groups, as local churches, school, community, diocese, and mission agencies have come together to prayer and support each MYC.

How do young people become disciples?

‘By young people, for young people’ happens when the young people gain a sense of ownership within their MYC. These mini communities help young people grow in faith and gain confidence. This can lead to a transformation of local communities, even reducing youth crime as well as increasing the aspirations of young people.

As young people are empowered, listened too and take ownership, so, we’ve seen many become lay leaders and some become youth workers. Many more young people are becoming active Christian disciples, team members and young leaders.

What’s our vision?

We want to see 125 MYCs grow and develop by 2030. The MYCN team is part of Church Army UK. We’ve received CofE People & Partnerships to develop new worshipping communities (MYCs) with unchurched young people and grow young disciples. We run an MYC Network with Learning Communities, Resources and Ongoing support for local MYCs.

We work in alignment with the CofE vision of a younger and more diverse Church. Please check out this short 3-minute film about MYCN: –
